OUR HISTORY

Swanbourne Primary School has a rich history dating back to 1905. Swanbourne was originally called ''North Claremont and the name was changed in 1921 to its current title. Swanbourne Primary school moved to its new school site on September 4th, 2001. It has outstanding facilities and very pleasant surroundings.

Below is a selection of memories of Swanbourne Primary's early days provided by Mr Richard Hatchett, a past student and teacher at the school:

"There didn’t seem to be so many rules and bare feet were not looked down upon."

"Sometimes the whole school held concerts under the large fig tree, which is still there to the absolute southwest. Fancy being allowed to climb trees at school!"

"The main entrance was where the east entrance now is. There was a hat room where the present staff toilets and secretary’s office now are. There used to be another pavilion where the middle quadrangle now is."

"At the top of the inside middle steps was a very small staff room, which is now the library."
