The Western Australilan curriculum provides teachers and supporting staff with information to help plan and assess learning programs, and report those outcomes.

Which learning areas are covered by the Western Australian Curriculum?

The WA curriculum provides teachers and supporting staff with information to help plan and assess learning programs, and report those outcomes.

There are eight learning areas:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Humanities and Social Sciences (including history, geography, civics and citizenship and economics and business)
  • The Arts - including visual arts and music
  • Languages
  • Health and Physical Education
  • Technologies

These learning areas remain broadly consistent with the Australian curriculum but have been modified to suit Western Australian teachers and the children they teach.

Academic Extension and Support

Swanbourne Primary has established partnerships with the Primary Extension and Academic Challenge (PEAC) program and external support agencies to guide differentiated teaching and learning.

Differentiation & Inclusion

A differentiated curriculum ensures curriculum is based on sound knowledge of each individual child. When working with children with additional needs, educators target capabilities and work closely with families and support personnel to differentiate learning opportunities that foster equity and fairness for all children and their families.

Educators maximise children's learning by making knowledgeable decisions about teaching and learning in five learning and development areas related to the outcomes identified in the curriculum. Actively engaging learners, arousing their curiosity and responding to capabilities will make children more likely to be motivated, curious and feel supported in the learning process.
